About Us

The Sunny Days Schoolhouse is a Licensed Child Care Home. We follow the minimum standards set by the State of Texas, and are subject to yearly inspections to ensure compliance. Our preschool and pre-k program specializes in a mixture of both play-based learning and academic assessment. We strive to prepare young learners for Kindergarten and beyond with both fun and stimulating learning experiences, while also allowing them to be autonomous and explore their own interests.

Our Curriculum
Within your child's classroom, a variety of learning experiences and methods will be used to help create a successful learning environment. Your child will have multiple opportunities to practice and explore new skills, while experiencing quality interactions. Our goal is to make learning fun and exciting! We want to create a special place where your child will thrive no matter their age, ability, or learning style.
Our classroom is made up of mixed-age learners. It is different from your traditional preschool, where the children are separated into different classrooms based on their age. Our multi-age classroom allows for more diversity in learning where the children can guide, teach, and mentor one another. This will boost both self-worth and self-esteem in older children, and allow younger children to extend their knowledge of more complex activities and interests.
Our daily activities introduce and address the skills and knowledge children should master before heading to Kindergarten. We also incorporate topics of interest that will stimulate their curiosity and imagination. Daily lessons will consist of both teacher-initiated and child-initiated learning, with several opportunities for physical activity and free play throughout the day. Lessons will be taught in both group and individual settings. Your child will have several opportunities to engage in one-on-one instruction with their educator and focus on more specific areas of learning. Your child will follow their own self-paced "Curriculum Map", which will be developed based on continuing assessment of their social, emotional, and academic abilities. Your child's personal "Curriculum Map" will help guide them through a path of more meaningful experiences, and help them to reach new learning milestones.
We will participate in monthly thematic units, which will promote engaging, fun, and meaningful learning. Every child, no matter what age level, will participate in these explorations together. These units will highlight specific topics of interest, and be incorporated throughout the week. This is a fun way for all learners to engage their minds and apply real-life situations while learning throughout the curricula.

Meet the Teacher
Hello! My name is Kendra Forney. I am a native Texan, born and raised in Plano, and now a proud resident of Melissa since 2016.
I fell in love with the idea of working with children at a very early age. I was a Montessori Assistant Teacher for six years and a personal nanny for another two. I loved working with children and watching them grow, learn, and just be silly.
I received my teaching degree in Early Childhood Education and Classroom Management from Texas Woman's University in 2009.
I knew I wanted a more personable approach to teaching, one where I could get to know and understand each and every child's needs and learning styles. I wanted learning to be less institutionalized and more exciting, spontaneous, and fun. I wanted to provide a home-like environment where each child could be themselves and learn key values to being strong, independent, and caring individuals. After many years of dreaming of my own preschool, The Sunny Days Schoolhouse came to life in October of 2022!
This journey has been a dream come true. I have put my heart and soul into making this school everything I would want in my child's learning environment. I am proud to be a Licensed Child Care Home and assure every step is taken to provide the best possible care and education for your child. I take pride in my teachings and provide a safe and nurturing environment to all who enter my home. Everyone is family here. Everyone matters here. Everyone has a bright future here. I can't wait to start our learning adventure together. I look forward to meeting you and your child!
A little bit about my family....I have been married to my wonderful husband Anthony since 2011. We have one daughter. We love spending time together on the weekends; playing with our goofy Dachshunds; spending time with our family any time we get a chance; playing board/card games and snuggling up with popcorn for family movie nights.
